What is Take Stock in Children?
Take Stock in Children (TSIC) is a transformative scholarship and mentoring program that helps break the cycle of poverty through education. It provides college scholarships, caring volunteer mentors, and college readiness support to academically qualified, low-income students in Florida.
Who is it for?
This opportunity is open to current 8th-grade students enrolled in public middle schools in Lake or Sumter County who meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrate financial need (per USDA or HUD guidelines)
- Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher with no grades below a C
- Have no major attendance or behavioral issues
- Possess a Social Security number
- Show a strong desire to succeed, supported by âStudent Statementâ and âParent Statementâ essays
When can you apply?

Where does it happen?
Students apply online and, if selected, are matched with a mentor who meets with them twice per month at their school.
