IDEA Dispute Resolution and Due Process
The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) provides several options for resolving disagreements related to the education of students with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). When concerns arise regarding a student’s identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), families and school districts are encouraged to resolve issues at the local level whenever possible. If further support is needed, formal dispute resolution options are available, including facilitated IEP meetings, mediation, state complaints, and due process hearings. These processes are designed to protect the rights of students and families while promoting collaborative problem-solving. For more information and access to forms and resources, please visit the FDOE Dispute Resolution webpage.
