“Building Tomorrow's Leaders Today!”
Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Sumter, the Sumter County School District has been an integral part of our community since 1905.
The Sumter County School District, in its commitment to educational excellence, will enable students to reach their potential through essential and positive educational experiences in a safe learning environment.
Sumter County and its school district is located in Central Florida, about an hour north of Tampa and approximately the same distance northwest of Orlando. The county is home to the largest retirement community in the world, The Villages, often referred to as Florida's Friendliest Hometown. While The Villages is quite populated and appears suburban, much of the remainder of the county is rural in nature.
The school district is made up of nine schools, including five elementary, one middle, one middle-high, one high, alternative programs, including a virtual school, and The Villages Charter School. Approximately 5,964 students attend the traditional public schools in Sumter County, with another 4019 enrolled in the charter school. While virtually the entire enrollment in the traditional public schools lives within the boundaries of Sumter County, The Villages Charter School serves students from Sumter and several surrounding counties.
