Out-of-Field Teacher Notification

In accordance with Florida law, all educators are monitored to ensure they meet the state’s certification and training requirements. Florida Statute 1012.42 mandates that parents be notified when their child is assigned to a teacher who is instructing outside of their certified subject area. The Florida Department of Education recognizes that some subject areas face teacher shortages, making it necessary at times to employ out-of-field teachers to meet the instructional needs of all students. An out-of-field is a certified educator who is teaching in a subject area that does not match their current certification. In some cases, teachers may be certified in the core subject area but are considered out-of-field in specialized areas such as English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or Gifted Education. These teachers are required to complete additional training to meet the instructional needs of English Language Learners or Gifted students. The list below identifies teachers currently providing instruction that falls under this statutory notification requirement. All teachers listed are actively working to fulfill the necessary requirements to become certified in the appropriate instructional area.
