A celebration was held on May 17th 2021 at the Sumter Adult and Community Ed (SPA Campus) to recognize completers in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning /Refrigeration program.

The HVAC Instructor, Guy Fraser and Micah Cook, Principal Sumter Adult Education, recognized Alvin Walker for his completion of the 750 hour HVAC program.  This three semester program prepares students for entry into the HVAC field or advanced training in the HVAC Industry.

Successful completers, like Mr. Walker, will have obtained EPA Certification, which allows them to work with refrigerants. Additionally the program provides training on the basic principles of air conditioning and refrigeration that apply to both commercial and residential systems, as well as elements of the industry such as planning, management, finance, and technical and production skills. The program also focuses on the underlying principles of technology, health and safety, and environmental issues as pertains to the HVAC Industry.

In addition to Mr. Walker other students were recognized for completion of the first and/or second semesters of the program. Completing the first semester was Javin Stroup and completing the second semester were students Manny Garcia, Brian Gill Jr. and Harry Kalkai.  Superintendent Richard A. Shirley said, “There are many paths to a successful career. Our ever-expanding Career Technical Program is just one more pathway for success as we work to help students of all ages get enrolled, enlisted or employed. “
