Ms. Shelly Williams

Hello, everyone. My name is Shelly Williams, and I'm one of the two foreign language teachers at South Sumter High School. This is my 29th year teaching, 26 of those at SSHS.  In fact, this is my 21st year in the same classroom. I have always taught Spanish, but over the years, I have also taught French, American Literature, FCAT and ACT prep. This year, I am teaching Spanish II and Intensive Reading.  I have Bachelors' degrees in Spanish and in Foreign Language Education, and a Master's degree in Foundations of  Education, which just means that while I love to teach, I have also been a lifelong learner.  I have found that my students have been some of my favorite teachers.

Spanish 2: This course develops increased listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Reading and writing receive more emphasis, while oral communication remains the primary objective. In addition, this course continues the cultural survey of Spanish-speaking people.

Intensive Reading 3: This course is designed for 11th grade students reading below grade level. The class is designed to motivate, enlighten and assist in the development of reading ability. A myriad of strategies are used for reading comprehension. Critical thinking and writing are a significant component of this course; you can expect to write consistently and independently read and analyze complex text in this class. The objective for this course is focused on achievement  for the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) English Language Arts (ELA) and SAT/ACT college entrance exam.
