Jaimie Kinney- Principal
I’m a lifelong Sumter County resident, graduating from Wildwood High school in 2006. I attended Saint Leo University and earned my Bachelor’s degree in 2010, which began my teaching career right here at Bushnell Elementary. For the next 8 years, I taught ELA in Kindergarten, First and Second Grade. In 2016, I was honored by being voted BES Teacher of the Year. In 2017, I graduated from the University of West Florida with a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. In 2018, I began serving as Assistant Principal Intern at Wildwood Elementary School. I faithfully served in that role for 3 years before returning home to BES as an Assistant Principal Intern. In 2022, I was truly honored to start serving Bushnell Elementary as Principal. As a BES parent, past teacher, and now administrator, I know and understand the tradition of excellence here at our school and will work tirelessly to continue that tradition! I look forward to getting to know you and your family more this school year. Together, we will continue making Bushnell Elementary School a great place to grow!

“If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are willing to learn, no one can stop you”. These words from Zig Ziglar are how I see my role as an educator and lifelong learner.
My learning journey began at Webster Elementary School and continued at South Sumter Middle School before graduating from South Sumter High School in 2002. After that I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Florida in 2004. I taught at South Sumter Middle School for the next 18 years, mostly U.S. History and Civics. Once I started teaching my students about our nation’s history, I fell in love with it and went back to school to learn more. In 2020, I graduated from Pace University with a Master’s Degree in American History. After participating in an educational leadership training program through the district, I was appointed as Assistant Principal Intern at Bushnell Elementary School in June 2022. I am excited to share my love for learning with the students, families, and teachers at Bushnell Elementary School!

I have served Sumter County Schools as an educator and coach for 17 years. I was born in Key West but raised in the Appalachian mountains of East Tennessee. My husband and I moved to Sumter County in 2005 where we both started our careers in education. Prior to our move, I earned my bachelor’s degree from Cumberland College (2000) and teaching certification from Tennessee Tech University (2004). I have had many leadership roles with my most recent serving as a reading teacher/literacy coach, MTSS Coordinator, and coaching many sports teams at SSH. In 2019, I was honored as Teacher of the Year for South Sumter High and recognized as an A+ Teacher on Spectrum News 13. I received my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education in 2020. I strive to bring a diverse range of skills and enthusiasm to help serve the students, staff, and families of Bushnell Elementary. I am excited to join the BES family as an Assistant Principal Intern in 2022.
