• Dress Code

    Sumter PREP dress standard is established to teach grooming and hygiene; instill discipline; prevent disruption; avoid safety hazards; and teach respect for authority. It is recognized that cleanliness, personal appearance, and proper dress habits are important in determining the pattern of school and social conduct and that there is a direct correlation between scholar appearance, attitude, and behavior. Scholars shall be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean and neat and that will not be a health or safety hazard to themselves or others. Sumter PREP prohibits any clothing or grooming that in the Principal's judgment may reasonably be expected to cause disruption of or interference with normal school operations.

    The school prohibits pictures, emblems, or writings on clothing that:

    • Are lewd, offensive, vulgar, obscene, violent, or disruptive to the school climate;
    • Advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any other prohibited substance;
    • Are determined to be gang related;
    • Any type of shirt normally accepted as underwear may not be worn as an outside shirt, and approved undershirts must be the same color as the dress code shirt.
    • Caps or hats may not be worn at school (may be permitted during winter months)

    • No pants/shorts with extra pockets, unless sewn closed. (Cargo, Dickies, Painter's pants, etc.)
    • No bandanas, sweatbands, hairnets, chains or jewelry (i.e., watches, bracelets, necklaces, etc.).

    Dress Code Infractions

    Scholars must wear clothing in the manner it is designed to be worn, i.e., clothing worn backwards or inside out is not allowed.  Any scholar who refuses to be checked for dress code violations will be considered in violation of the dress code and will receive disciplinary consequences.

    If the scholar's dress attire is not appropriate or they should be in uniform on Dress Down Friday, the parent will need to bring appropriate clothing or pick them up.   This will be considered an unexcused absence from the classes missed, and a failing grade may be recorded in the classes in which graded work was recorded for the day.

    If the parent is unable to bring appropriate clothing or pick them up, the scholar will be assigned to the Character Academy until the dress code violation has been corrected.
