Sumter Adult Education HVAC Student Graduates

A celebration was held on May 17th 2021 at the Sumter Adult and Community Ed (SPA Campus) to recognize completers in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning /Refrigeration program.
The HVAC Instructor, Guy Fraser and Micah Cook, Principal Sumter Adult Education, recognized Alvin Walker for his completion of the 750 hour HVAC program. This three semester program prepares students for entry into the HVAC field or advanced training in the HVAC Industry.
Successful completers, like Mr. Walker, will have obtained EPA Certification, which allows them to work with refrigerants. Additionally the program provides training on the basic principles of air conditioning and refrigeration that apply to both commercial and residential systems, as well as elements of the industry such as planning, management, finance, and technical and production skills. The program also focuses on the underlying principles of technology, health and safety, and environmental issues as pertains to the HVAC Industry.
In addition to Mr. Walker other students were recognized for completion of the first and/or second semesters of the program. Completing the first semester was Javin Stroup and completing the second semester were students Manny Garcia, Brian Gill Jr. and Harry Kalkai.

TABE ExemptionsStudents who possess a college degree at the Associate of Applied Science level or higher; who have completed or are exempt from the college entry-level examination (a student who entered 9th grade in a Florida public school in the 2003-2004 school year, or any year thereafter, and earned a Florida standard high school diploma or a student who is serving as an active duty member of any branch of the United States Armed Services); or who have passed a state, national, or industry licensure exam are exempt from meeting the Basic Skills requirement. Exemptions from state, national or industry licensure are limited to the certifications listed on the Basic Skills and Licensure Exemption List which may be accessed from the FLDOE CTE Resources webpage.
