The Sumter County School Board intends to apply for the Florida Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers program (21st CCLC). This funding would be used to provide an extensive afterschool program. The funding priorities are particularly for students in schools with a high percentage of students on free and reduced lunch. The program helps students: (1) Meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math;  (2) Offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; (3) Offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children. The school district is currently completing a needs assessment and planning for grant purposes.  Webster Elementary School 1925

This community school, which first opened in 1925, has also been used as a Junior High, a High School, and administrative offices. The new building has a “Legacy Hall” that honors the history of the school. Inside this corridor, commemorative bricks are engraved and purchased by
alumni, students, and staff to showcase information about the school and the community. Class pictures, the old school bell and plaque, and other memorabilia that has been preserved, documented and donated by the Legacy Hall Committee and community volunteers is on display.
