The Sumter County School Board intends to apply for the Florida Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers program (21st CCLC). This funding would be used to provide an extensive afterschool program. The funding priorities are particularly for students in schools with a high percentage of students on free and reduced lunch. The program helps students: (1) Meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; (2) Offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; (3) Offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children. The school district is currently completing a needs assessment and planning for grant purposes.
